The Grand Retreat

Overview

The Grand America Hotel hosted a three-day corporate wellness retreat for a group of guests at their Salt Lake City property. After the first day, it became clear that guests were not connecting — the atmosphere felt polite but distant, and the energy wasn't landing the way the client had hoped. CINA was brought in at the start of day two to reshape the relational conditions for the remainder of the retreat.

The Challenge

Guests had spent an entire day together without meaningfully connecting. The social atmosphere was surface-level, and with only two days remaining, there was little time to rebuild momentum. The client needed a shift — not more programming, but a different quality of presence and ease in the room.

Our Approach

We assessed the existing flow and identified where the retreat was creating distance rather than dissolving it. Small, deliberate adjustments were made to how shared time was structured — the pacing between activities, the way meals were held, and the conditions around unscheduled moments. We moved through the remaining days with minimal visibility, guiding the atmosphere so that connection could happen naturally rather than by design.

The Outcome

By the end of day two, guests were visibly more at ease with one another. Conversations deepened, the energy in shared spaces shifted, and the group carried that momentum through the final day. The client noted a clear before-and-after in how guests were relating — something that had felt forced became genuinely warm.

"We didn't know what was missing until it changed. The shift from day one to day two was remarkable — guests who barely spoke at dinner the first night were laughing together by the end of day two."
